Breastfeeding Basics

Breastfeeding is the most natural and nutritious was to encourage your baby's development. Neither the nutrients found in the milk you produce nor the special benefits these nutrients provide can be duplicated. Simply put, nature does the best job of providing for your baby's needs.

If you are considering Breastfeeding, you should consider attending our class, Breastfeeding Basics. Taught by our Certified Breastfeeding Educator, this 1 hour class will help you understand all of the benefits of breastfeeding, for you and your baby, and provide you with practical advice on how to get a good start in the hospital that continues at home. We will share a video with you that will show new moms working with a Lactation Consultant. Breastfeeding Basics is offered every month, 1st Monday 7pm ? 8pm.

If you are breastfeeding, you may have some questions or concerns after leaving the hospital. We are available to give you guidance and support to help you continue with your choice to breastfeed.

Prepared Childbirth

The birth of your baby is one of the most exciting events in your life and a moment that you will cherish and remember always. You will relate your birth experience with friends, family and even your child as he or she begins their family.

Your journey will be filled with excitement, joy and an element of fear of the unknown. The purpose of this class is to help you understand the process of labor and delivery and to answer questions about the birth of your child. The more knowledge you have of the process of birth, the more likely you will approach your personal journey with confidence and a positive perspective.

Sibling Classes

Do you already have children? Are you worried about their adjustment to their new sibling? Are you planning on having any of your children attend the birth of their new brother or sister?

Who Attends Sibling Classes?

These classes are designed for children who are at least 2, who will be present at the birth of a sibling. They're also welcome to bring a friend (mom, dad or older sibling).

What Happens at Sibling Classes?

We watch a video of a birth, read stories about birth from a child's perspective, write a "birth plan" to help out during the birth, "practice birthing" (moaning, yelling, moving around, different positions), birth art, talking about newborn babies, and simple baby care.

When Should We Attend?

You should attend sibling classes during the last trimester of mom's pregnancy. The information they learn and the things they see will be fresh in their minds and easier to remember.

How Much Do They Cost?

Free if delivering at Cushing Regional Hospital Women's Health Center. If delivering somewhere else the cost is $25 per child. If you have additional children from the same family attending, they are only an additional $5 each.
